Verses of Love (Ayat-ayat Cinta)
By: Habiburahman El Shirazy
It is a phenomenal novel from Indonesia, that has been filmed and take a huge success (both film and the novel). This is a novel about Islam and love in Islam.
It sets in Cairo, Egypt, about Indonesia college student (master degree) named Fahri. He studies at Al Azhar University to get his master degree. Fahri is a son of a tape seller (tape=fermented cassava) that is so religious and keep his religion at the first line. He never misses his time for shalat (pray time).
He's been famous around many women, and almost all of them fall in love to him. Let's say, there's Nurul (she's a college student at Al Azhar from Indonesia, a daughter of a very famous kiai (tittle or reference for venerated scholar), Maria (she's a Coptical Christians, and also Fahri's neighbour), then Noura (She's also Fahri's neighbour that has been abused for many years by her own family), and the last one is Aisha (she is a Germany girl that meets Fahri for a couple time, and she is also Fahri's future wife).
One day, his spiritual teacher ask him whether he wants to get married or not, because he wants to introduce his friend's niece to Fahri. He agrees to do ta'aruf (Islamic way to introduce man to a woman, before they get marry), apparently this girl is Aisha.
Then they've got married, and live happily, but it's not long period, because one day Fahri is arrested because of a rape case. He's been accused for raping Noura.
How can be a very religious person like Fahri do those kind of crime?
Do Fahri did it?
Or Noura tells a lie and accuse Fahri?
Did Aisha believe this accusation or she will support his husband?
Just read one of the greatest Indonesia novel to find out the answer. A religious romantic novel, that is so polite. A novel that tells a love story in Islamic and east way.
What a bright author. Two thumbs up!

Weep No More My Lady
By Mary Higgins Clark
Another crime novel by Mary Higgins Clark, don't know why I like it very much. She is a bright author, all the tense and conflicts make me addicted to her novel.
This novel tells a story about Elizabeth Lange that wants to know who is the real killer of her older sister, famous actress Leila Lasalle. She's been found fall from her penthouse balcony and her fiancee Ted Winters (the business king) has been accused killed her.
One day she's been invited to the Cypress Point (a number one spa at the California), the owner, Baron and Baronnesse Helmut von Schreiber are her and her sister's best friend (they also the one that offer Leila's first job that makes her a famous actress). Here she wants to do her own investigation, she's not sure Ted Winters really kills her sister, so she wants to investigate it at the Cypress Point.
The thing becomes more tense and more tense, when Elizabeth's found many things that not suitable from her expectation.
Who is Leila's real killer?
Her own fiancee Ted Winters that has been dumped few hours before the murder?
Her best friend that own the spa, Baron and Baronesse Helmut von Schreiber that has an economical problem?
Her manager Syd that also has been dumped few hours ago?
Another actress that is also Leila's enemy, Cheryl?
Or maybe Craig, Ted's vice that always becomes Ted's shadow?
What an interesting story, it makes me feel so enthusiastic from the beginning till end of the novel. What a great novel.

The answer is in this novel, what a great novel for football lover (but I don't think so for you that don't like it).
Honestly I can't read this novel smoothly, because I'm not a football lover, and for sure I don't know foot ball at all. This is not a popular sports in Indonesia.

All Around The Town
By Mary Higgins Clark
Another great novel from Mary Higgins Clark, that uses psychological personality disorder (splitting personality) as the background of a crime novel. This is an interesting novel (mostly because I love a psychological novel) with a high tension almost at entire of the novel.
Laurie, a beautiful girl that has a trauma after she was kidnapped when she's four years old. She's been abused physically and sexually by her kidnapper and it makes her personality splits becomes 5 independent personality.
When her parents died at an accident, her other personality arise again to help her cope all of the guilt and her sorrow, but she never realizes all of other personality, until she's been accused on murder her professional instructor on her college, Alan Grant.
She doesn't know that her alter personality, Leona, often send Alan love letters and says that she's crazy for him.
Her older sister tries a lot to release all of the accusation to Laurie, she tries to take her to the psychiatry and takes so many therapies to pull all of bad memories that has been forget by Laurie (especially memory when she's been kidnapped).
Slowly but sure, she can remember all of that bad memories that always makes her has a nightmare. But, her kidnapper (Bic and Opal) don't want Laurie remember those memories and they plan to make her disappear forever (to make her suicide).
Did Laurie really kills Alan Grant? Or there is another murderer that takes a benefit from his death?
Read it and you'll gonna love it. It really makes me in tense from the beginning to the end of the story.
